The Volkswagen Golf first came out in 1974. It had big shoes to fill as it was the replacement to the Beetle.
It’s layout was the exact opposite of the Beetle in most aspects. It was a water cooled front engine, front wheel drive that owed in design more to the original Mini than the Beetle.
It success has been phenomenal. Golf is the third biggest selling name plate in the world having sold over 29 million vehicles in total. Only the Toyota Corolla and the Ford F series beat it.
This year Volkswagen released the seventh generation of the Golf onto the Australian market.
The sixth generation Volkswagen was still one of the best in its class so did Volkswagen make a few cosmetic changes or did they do a whole new thing with this latest model.
