Overdrive Program – 29 March 2014

Welcome to Overdrive, a program that pontificates on issues to do with motoring and transport.

This audio file features a full program. Other extended segments of the program, including the road test and panel discussion are also available on this website.

In this program we take a look at the following news stories from around the world:

  1. GM rolling out three-cylinder engines over next 3 years
  2. A new utility does very poorly in crash tests
  3. Mercedes-Benz new Coupe can turn like a motorbike (sort of) and
  4. California launches the country’s first all-electric school bus

In local news, we discuss with Mitsubishi their new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle the PHEV (but please don’t call it the ‘fev’) and we road test the awkwardly named KIA pro_cee’d GT.

Our panel discussion with Brian Smith and Errol Smith discusses unusual motoring and transport subjects including news of the “Back to the Future” hover-board, a lady buys a new car for one anti-social activity and a turtle gets new wheels.
