Road Test – Ford EcoSport

Ford makes some pretty good little sedans.  We recently raved about the Fiesta ST here on Overdrive.  Well they now have also brought a small SUV onto the market; the EcoSport.

It’s designed in Brazil and it’s built in Indian and it’s based on the Fiesta platform.

It looks the part and one of the engine options is surprising.

Is it a proud entry into the Ford stable?

  • The three cylinder turbo of 1 litre capacity puts out
    • Maximum power 92 kW @ 6000 RPM/Maximum torque 170 Nm @ 1400 – 4500 RPM
    • The four cylinder normally aspirated with a capacity of 1.5 litres puts out less power and torque without the torque range
      • Maximum power 82 kW @ 6300 rpm/Maximum torque 140 Nm @ 4400 rpm
      • Three cylinder is refined and small
      • Three cylinder only in manual
      • They will run 91 RON but they recommend 95-98 RON
      • Front wheel drive
      • Very quiet ride – low road and wind noise
      • Has a bulbous nose on the front
      • Has the full sized spare on the back of the rear door.  You don’t see that much now, it’s not pretty but it is functional.
      • Base Model Ambiente has reasonable features including:
