In 1964 Ford released the Mustang onto the American market.

The sales forecasts for the first year were for 100,000 vehicles

They passed this mark in three months and by the end of the first year they had sold 418,000 cars.

An icon was born.

The Mustang has had a chequered history since then where along the way it lost its looks and its mojo.

Now nearly 50 years after the first model they have shown off the sixth generation Mustang.

Ford has gone the full throttle in hyping this new model as, according to them, one of the most critical car launches for the Ford Brand.

Is it that important for Ford?  Does it fulfil the image.
