In 1983 the Proton company was started to produce cars in Malaysia. They made their first car in 1985.
There first efforts used hand-me-down models from Mitsubishi.
They have had strong government support over the years and are still given tax concessions in Malaysia.
They have produced a moderate number of vehicles over the years although they have struggled to have an up-to-date range of cars on the market.
Quality has been an issue.
They have recently announced three cars which we were given a drive of the other day.
How good are they and how is the company facing the future.
