The life and times of a 1923 Peugeot 163 van and the restoration process

Brian Jubb has done a beautiful restoration of a 1923 Peugeot Van.

In our conversation he revealed among other things:

  • The block and the head in the engine are one solid lump of iron, not separate castings.
  • An engine that does not have an exhaust manifold, petrol pump, oil pump and the petrol is drip feed into the motor.
  • Maximum Speed 60-65 km/hr
  • First gear is very low but is needed to be especially if the engine is cold
  • Pushing the gear lever up gets first gear – pushing it further gets reverse!
  • Why little vans were a critical part of post-WWI development.
