Transport planning: What transport needs do we have and are experts the only ones with solutions

Quite often people who are very close to a subject are not always good at getting predictions of the future right.
Think of the political pundits or a football tipping competition run in a major newspaper. Being an expert who works in the field is no guarantee of accuracy.
The NSW government has just held a forum on the future of transport in that state and they invited a wide range of people not just the usual mode specific transport experts. This is a good idea.
But determining our transport future is even broader than this.
We need to better understand what is happening here and now and we need to know that achieving solutions is not just about experts telling us what to do.
